[Ninaithale Inikkum] shambo shiva shambo…

Wonder if this song truly “fits” to the Thathuvam banner, since it advocates seeking our pleasures in life etc .  But then the powerful lyrics gives a different perspective. Hats off to Kannadasan for the lyrics.

Movie: Ninaithale Inikkum
Poet: Kannadasan
Music Director and Singer : MS Viswanathan
Song Sequence: (1)-(2)-(2)-(3)-(2)-(4)-(5)-(1)

shambo shivashambo shivashambo shivashambo,

greetings to the god shiva (mainly used in the context of “god of joy”),

jagame thandhiram sugame manthiram,
manidhan endhiram shivashambo,
nenjam aalayam, ninaive thevadhai,
dhinamum naadagam shivasambo,

this world is your space ( what you make out of your ability), being happy and effortless is the secret of it,
man is a machine , oh shiva,
your heart is the temple, your thoughts are the god(s),
every day is nothing but a drama , oh shiva

manidha un jenmathil ennalum nannaalaam,
marunaalai ennadhae, innale ponnaalaam,
pallaakkai thookkaathe, pallaakkil neeyeru,
unnaayul thonnuru, ennalum pathinaaru ,

oh human , in your lifetime all days are good days,
don’t think about tomorrows, today is the golden day,
don’t be the person who is carrying the palanquin, be the one who sits in the palanquin,
your lifetime may last 90 years, but live as though  you are 16 forever.

appaavum thaathaavum vanthaargal ponaargal,
thappenaa sariyenna eppothum vilayaadu,
appaavi enbaargal thappaaga ninaikkaathe,
eppaathai ponaalum inbatthai thallaadhe,

our fathers and fore fathers came and went,
there is nothing correct , nor anything wrong , just play as you feel,
people may say that you are simpleton , don’t feel bad about it ,
which ever path you take , seek pleasure .

kallai nee thindraalum serikkindra naalinru,
kaalangal ponaalo thinraadhe enbaargal,
ah mathuvundu pen undu sor undu,
sugam undu manam undu endraale,
sorgatthil idamundu,

even if you eat stone today it will get digested,
as times pass they will say not to eat ,
ah if there is liquor , women ,  food,
effortlessness and the heart , that is heaven and you are ensured a place in heaven

This song was actually written by Kanmani Subbhu, the eldest son of Kaviarasar Kannadhasan along with two other songs ‘What a waiting’ and ‘Nizhal kondavan’. Of course, the songs were corrected and finalised by Kannadhasan before submitting it to K. Balachander. It was encouraged by K. Balachander himself with the view to groom him to take over from Kannadhasan in the future. Kanmani Subbhu was an assistant director to K.Balachander from Manmatha Neelai until Nool Veli where he left to venture on his own as director.

Kanmanisubbu Subbhu was awarded the Tamil Nadu State award for best song ‘Nan thedum ‘ from the film Dharma Pathini in 1986.
